Stilen byggde inledningsvis på amerikanska r&b-låtar omarrangerade efter gruppens speciella vokala harmonistil. Gruppen började dock snart spela in egna kompositioner skrivna under pseudomymen Ransford. The Hollies var en av Englands mest stabila hitgruper på 1960-talet och början av 70-talet.
